ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHTING WITH NO UP-FRONT COST 

 For a limited time, Members of the Rhinebeck Area Chamber of Commerce can take advantage of Central Hudson’s commercial lighting program. Participants will receive a lighting audit and retrofit with high-efficiency lamps and fixtures, paying only 40 percent of the total cost. The average payback is approximately 14 months, and the cost can be financed interest-free over that period. Central Hudson pays the balance of the new lighting installation. For businesses that use financing, there is no up-front cost.

The program is open to commercial and non-residential customers with an average monthly electric demand of up to 350 kilowatts. To enroll, commercial customers should call (845) 486-5221 on weekdays to schedule a free energy audit.

Building owners should be aware of a mandate by the U.S. Department of Energy to phase out production of older T12 fluorescent lamps and ballasts beginning July 2012. The commercial lighting program an ideal opportunity to replace these older fixtures and lamps at a substantial cost reduction, and realize energy savings year after year.

Since the program was first offered in November 2010, more than 1,500 commercial and governmental projects have been completed, realizing in total an estimated annual savings of more than 34 million kilowatt-hours in electrical usage, or enough energy to power 4,300 homes for one year. Participating small commercial customers have realized an average savings of 23 percent on their electric bills, and mid-size customers an average of 11 percent.
